Do Silvia Tereza's Blog - In a press conference this Wednesday (29), the state Secretary of Health, Ricardo Murad, announced the installation of advanced and specialized units in trauma and emergency surgery in Maranhão with the aim of relieving the high demand on state hospitals, such as the Socorrão hospitals. Initially, the goal is to implement, starting in May, three of these centers in São Luís: Vila Luizão, Vila Palmeira and Maiobão.
The units will function as branches of the General Hospital and have already been nicknamed "little general hospitals" by Ricardo Murad himself, with the mission of attending to emergency cases, including less complex surgeries, to prevent people from having to travel to hospitals like the emergency rooms and others.
"When these units are implemented in São Luís, patients won't even want to go to the emergency rooms anymore," Ricardo Murad said in a very relaxed tone with the press.
Matões Unit
During part of the morning, Ricardo Murad met, in his office, with mayors and health secretaries from 12 municipalities to discuss the operation of the advanced unit of the Tarquínio Lopes Filho Hospital (General) which will be inaugurated this Friday (31) in Matões do Norte. It will be another center of the Health is Life Program under state management and the first model of this new project announced.
Mayors and municipal health secretaries from Anajatuba, Arari, Cantanhede, Itapecuru-Mirim, Miranda do Norte, Nina Rodrigues, Pirapemas, Presidente Vargas, São Benedito do Rio Preto, Urbano Santos, Vargem Grande, and Vitória do Mearim—municipalities included in the project for the units—were invited to the meeting. The agenda focused on the regulation of patients from that region, starting with the inauguration of the Matões do Norte unit.
Ricardo Murad explained to the municipal managers how the advanced units, branches of the General Hospital, will operate, with a surgical center functioning 24 hours a day.
