Sarney: "Marina has the face of a saint but a desire for hatred"
Senator José Sarney (PMDB), who withdrew from the reelection race, launched an attack against the PSB presidential candidate, Marina Silva. During a speech on the campaign stage for gubernatorial candidate Lobão Filho (PMDB) in São Luís, Sarney said that the PSB presidential candidate has a "saintly face" and a "desire for hatred"; "Ms. Marina, with that saintly face, but [there is] no one more radical, more angry, more with a desire for hatred than her. When she talks about dialogue, what she calls dialogue is converting you," he stated; Sarney asked for votes for President Dilma Rousseff, whom he described as "a woman of command," and for Lobão Filho.
Maranhão 247 - Senator José Sarney (PMDB) launched harsh criticism against PSB presidential candidate Marina Silva on Tuesday night, the 16th. During a speech on the campaign stage for gubernatorial candidate Lobão Filho (PMDB) in São Luís, Sarney said that the PSB presidential candidate has a "saintly face" and a "desire for hatred."
"Ms. Marina, with that saintly face, but there's no one more radical, angrier, more driven by hatred than her. When she talks about dialogue, what she calls dialogue is converting you," he stated.
The patriarch of the Sarney clan asked for votes for President Dilma Rousseff, whom he described as "a woman of command," and said he knew "the other one," referring to Marina, with whom he worked for 16 years in the Senate. "She [Marina] thinks the world has two parts: one condemned to salvation and the other to perdition," said Sarney, greeted by the audience with shouts of "warrior of the Brazilian people."
This year's campaign marks the farewell of the senator and Roseana from the race for public office. He gave up trying for re-election to Congress, and his daughter did not want to run for a seat in the Senate.
Referring to Lobão Filho's main opponent, Flávio Dino (PCdoB), Sarney joked, mentioning the candidate's "arrogance and big belly like a judge" and said that all his opponents had already flattered him.
"Almost everything in our land that they speak ill of has passed through my hands. Even my enemies, they all passed through my hands. There isn't one [enemy] who hasn't flattered me. If I asked, they would lick my feet," he added.
Alongside the senator, on the platform with photos of Dilma and Lobão Filho, were Roseana, Vice President Michel Temer (PMDB), and the Workers' Party minister Ideli Salvatti (Human Rights).
