Departure of PSB deputies threatens Pernambuco, the party's heartland.

Around 15 parliamentarians across the country are expected to leave the PSB after a possible alliance with the PT was ruled out.

Metropolis The exodus of PSB deputies after a federation with the PT was ruled out could even affect Pernambuco, the state that is the heart of the party. The PSB has continuously led the Pernambuco government since 2007.

One likely departure is that of Pernambuco congressman Felipe Carreras, who is strongly inclined to join the Green Party (PV), which will be part of the federation with the Workers' Party (PT). If he migrates to the new party, Carreras could benefit from the popularity of former president Lula.

The atmosphere within the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) caucus is tense after negotiations for a federation with the PT (Workers' Party) fell through. Around 15 parliamentarians are considering leaving the PSB. The problem isn't limited to the Chamber of Deputies: it extends to state representatives, mayors, and city councilors. Minas Gerais and Paraná, for example, have already shown clear signs of defections.
