Rui Costa rules out Carnival and New Year's Eve celebrations in Bahia before a coronavirus vaccine is available.

The governor of Bahia said that "it's not decided yet," but highlighted the danger of large gatherings. He also considered it a "huge risk."

Forum Magazine - The governor of Bahia, Rui Costa (PT), declared in an interview this Saturday (30) that large gatherings should not take place in the state until a vaccine for the coronavirus is found.

"Nothing is decided, but I think it's unlikely that not only Carnival, but New Year's Eve or any other large gathering in Brazil and the world will happen," he said in an interview with CNN Brazil. He also considered that this would be a "huge risk."

Costa also criticized President Jair Bolsonaro's handling of the crisis. "Unfortunately, Brazil failed to create unity in the country to confront the virus. The federal government kept preaching that it was just a little flu, even if 30 or 40 people died. This created confusion. States and municipalities cannot, on their own, implement the necessary isolation measures," he stated.
