Four municipalities included in the state government's 'More HDI' Action Plan will receive wells to universalize sanitation systems in the 'D-Day – More HDI'A day of mobilization, service provision, works inspection, and dissemination of actions, simultaneously, in the 30 municipalities of the plan. In addition to these, the Maranhão Environmental Sanitation Company (Caema), through the 'Water for All' program, will drill artesian wells and install distribution networks in another 28 municipalities that have never had a treated water supply system.
The six wells that are about to become operational were drilled in Água Doce do Maranhão, Amapá do Maranhão, Aldeias Altas, and Conceição do Lago Açu. Together, these cities comprise a population of over 56 people from Maranhão who will have access, once the tubular wells are activated, to a water supply system that employs quality standards in the service and helps to increase the Human Development Index (HDI) in these locations.
The works for the installation of universal water systems in the municipalities participating in the 'Mais IDH' program represent an investment of over R$ 75 million and will guarantee the implementation of a distribution system, similar to the first full water supply system already in operation, delivered by 'Mais IDH' in 2015, benefiting the residents of Primeira Cruz. The systems will include an elevated reservoir, pipelines from the wells to the reservoir, and a distribution network with the necessary extension to serve the area and number of houses covered, as explained by the Director of Engineering and Environment at Caema, José Luís Bastos.
“We have instructions from Governor Flávio Dino to present concrete actions to the communities, actions that truly transform realities and bring more quality of life to the population. Wherever we go, people reaffirm that they are seeing the firm presence of the Government of Maranhão in their regions,” emphasizes the president of Caema, Davi Telles.
