The Workers' Party (PT) may launch its own candidate for governor of Maranhão.

This would be a solution to avoid having to choose between supporting the PMDB of the Sarney family or the candidacy of Flávio Dino, from the PCdoB; in Maranhão, the PT's directory is split: one wing participates in Roseana's government and the other is in opposition; former president Lula defends supporting the PMDB.

247 - The Workers' Party (PT) is considering launching its own candidate for governor of Maranhão, so as not to have to choose between supporting the PMDB of the Sarney family or the candidacy of Flávio Dino, of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB). A candidate from their own party would soften the break with the Sarney clan, PT members believe, and would be less traumatic than the PT supporting Dino.

In Maranhão, the PT (Workers' Party) leadership is split: one faction supports Roseana's government, while the other opposes her. In 2010, the national PT intervened and imposed support for Roseana against Dino himself. This debate resurfaced, but now Roseana is expected to run for the Senate. Former President Lula advocates supporting the PMDB (Brazilian Democratic Movement Party), but the PT president, Rui Falcão, suggested an intermediate solution a few months ago: supporting Dino for governor and Roseana for the Senate, which was not accepted by either side.
