Maranhao 247 – The Maranhão State Court has extended for another ten days the temporary detentions of all those arrested in Operations "Maharaja" and "Morta-Viva," launched by the Civil Police on May 4th, which investigate loan sharking crimes in Maranhão. The mayors of Bacuri, Richard Nixon dos Santos; Marajá do Sena, Edvan Costa; the former mayor of Zé Doca, Raimundo Nonato Sampaio, known as Natim; and the former mayor of Marajá do Sena, Perachi Farias, remain in custody.
Josival Cavalcanti, known as Pacovan, also had approximately R$ 7 million seized. The accountant for the municipality of Marajá do Sena, José Epitácio Muniz, known as Cafeteira, will also remain in custody. This information comes from the newspaper Maranhão da Gente.
According to Delegate Augusto Barros, the renewal was based on a new request from the Civil Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office. "This way we ensure the production of evidence without negative interference from the suspects, allowing for new interrogations as the interrogations are compared with other seized evidence and information obtained from the lifting of confidentiality," he said.
Investigations into Josival Cavalcanti, known as Pacovan, indicate that he used companies registered under the names of third parties to benefit himself from various business dealings with city halls, such as supplying school meals, medicines, school materials, and construction projects. Accountant José Epitácio Muniz confessed to creating at least four companies for the scheme.
