247- The city of Zé Doca, in Maranhão, experienced a major change in its plans for Carnival 2025. Traditionally marked by four days of revelry, the Carnival celebration was canceled by the pro-Bolsonaro mayor Flavinha Cunha (PL), who announced on her social media the holding of the "First Gospel Festival in the entire region." The decision, made in partnership with state deputy Josimar de Maranhãozinho (PL), caused a great deal of repercussion and divided the population, as reported by the portal.l Middle North.

In a video released on the digital platforms of the City Hall and the mayor herself, Flavinha Cunha appears alongside Maranhãozinho and announces the "big" news for the city. "There will be 4 days of much praise and worship to God," declared the congressman. The mayor also emphasized the importance of the event, highlighting that it aims to "please the population." "Get ready for our first Adora Zé Doca," added Flavinha, referring to the gospel festival that will take place from March 1st to 4th.

The post generated nearly 600 comments, many of which expressed strong criticism, mainly questioning the replacement of the traditional carnival, a popular celebration, with a religious event sponsored by the public authorities. Two days after the announcement of the carnival's cancellation, the Zé Doca City Hall published another video, informing that pre-carnival events will be held on February 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, in the format of an "off-season carnival".
