Presenting the Port of Itaqui as a strategic channel for the outflow of production from Maranhão and the north-central region of Brazil is the objective of the participation of the Maranhão Port Administration Company (EMAP) in two business meetings in Asia starting this week. EMAP's president, Ted Lago, will be present at both: the Asia Mission – Investments in Brazilian Ports, organized by the federal government starting this Tuesday, the 12th, in China (Shanghai and Hong Kong) and Singapore; and the seminar "Business and Investment Opportunities in the Agribusiness of the State of Tocantins," from the 19th to the 23rd, in Tokyo, Japan.

The mission to China is an initiative of the Federal Government through Apex-Brasil – the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency – in partnership with the PPI – Partnerships and Investments Program – and the Ministry of Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation. The objective is to promote investment opportunities in Brazilian ports, specifically attracting resources for projects and presenting investment opportunities in Itaqui to Chinese companies.

In addition to the seminar, the event includes business meetings and visits to key ports. The Brazilian delegation includes members of the Federal Government, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), and managers from the ports of Itaqui, São Sebastião, Açu, Pecem, and Porto Central. The latter were invited to present their potential and participate in meetings with local companies. This invitation demonstrates the importance that the Port of Itaqui holds today and its consolidation as the preferred public port of the Northern Arc of the country, with the capacity to attract new investments to Maranhão. “For us, it is an opportunity to present the strategic advantages and infrastructure of Itaqui, and to reinforce the negotiations that have already been underway in the Asian market,” says Ted Lago.

After completing the agenda of this mission, Ted will travel to Japan, where he will accompany the Tocantins State Government delegation to Tokyo for the seminar "Business and Investment Opportunities in the Agribusiness of the State of Tocantins" and visits to Japanese government agencies and companies. The official Tocantins State Government delegation includes Governor Marcelo Miranda (PMDB-TO), Senator Vicente Alves (PR-TO), Representative Dulce Miranda (PMDB-TO), the Secretaries of Economic Development, Science, Technology, Tourism and Culture, Alexandre de Castro Silva, and of Agriculture and Livestock, Clemente Barros, as well as other authorities.

The president of EMAP is participating as a guest, as are the president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Tocantins (FIETO), Roberto Magno Pires, and the executive secretary of the Brazil/Japan Chamber of Commerce, Fujiyoshi Hirata. The reason for the Maranhão port's participation in the seminar is to present the project for the outflow of refrigerated meat from the region through the Port of Itaqui. "This invitation demonstrates the importance of our port as the preferred port of MATOPIBA and the entire Northern Arc of Brazil," states Ted Lago.
