Maranhao 247 - The decrease in Intentional Lethal Violent Crimes (CVLIs) in the São Luís Metropolitan Region was increasing between 2015 and 2016. From January to July of this year, there were 374 cases of this type – 18% less than the previous year, when there were a total of 455 cases. This shows that the administration has surpassed itself in containing occurrences. This group includes homicides, bodily injuries followed by death, and robberies followed by murder.

The data from Flávio Dino's administration is even lower than that recorded in 2014, when there were 468 violent deaths – the current government managed to reduce crime in its first year with a 3% drop in reported cases. The data comes from the State Secretariat of Public Security.

If only homicides are considered, the decreases are even more significant. In the first year of the administration, in 2015, there were 403 homicides, 7% less than the 432 cases in 2014. In the first half of 2016, there were 347 registered deaths – 14% less than last year.

This intensive work by the police has led Maranhão to surpass the goal set by the National Secretariat of Public Security (Senasp), an agency within the Ministry of Justice. Senasp mandates an annual reduction of 5% in crime, totaling 20% over a four-year period. Maranhão exceeded this goal in the first year of the administration, with a 7,8% decrease in crime.
