Miriam Leitão: Disregard for the TSE order is an attack on democracy by the PRF.

"This was the dark side of this election, which leaves us with a list of things to do to improve and defend democracy," he described.

247 - Journalist Miriam Leitão, in her column in the newspaper O Globo, harshly criticized the Bolsonaro government, which, on the day of the second round of the presidential elections, authorized the Federal Highway Police to block roads in the Northeast, hindering the movement of voters of former president Lula (PT) who needed to travel to vote.

According to Leitão, "the government used the public machinery throughout this election, but using the Federal Highway Police to disregard the TSE's order and curtail the right to vote was an escalation. That's why Alexandre de Moraes reacted so strongly."

Contrary to the determination of the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who prohibited the PRF from carrying out blitzes, the corporation carried out more than 500 approaches on buses this Sunday (30), exceeding by 70% the number of approaches in the first round.

“The president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), Alexandre de Moraes, acted preventively because there were reports of a risk of manipulation by the Federal Police. He issued a decision ordering agents not to carry out operations. However, reports arrived early on that agents continue to conduct inspections against buses, mainly in the Northeast, and this is very serious. Now, Moraes has issued a new order and determined that the director of the Federal Highway Police, Silvinei Vasques, must "immediately" stop the corporation's operations on public transportation of voters and summoned him to appear before the TSE,” wrote the journalist.

Leitão points out that this could be considered the darkest episode of the 2022 election. “In this campaign, for the first time, the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) took action to mitigate the problem, but fake news continues to be a challenge for Brazilian democracy in the coming times. Other challenges will be preventing electoral harassment of employees by employers and the abusive use of the church, especially the evangelical church, to try to control the votes of the faithful, which is not possible in a secular state,” he concluded.
