247 - Supreme Court Justice Luís Roberto Barroso has given Senator and former Minister of Mines and Energy Edison Lobão (PMDB-MA) 20 days to respond to suspicions of a hidden company in the Cayman Islands. The magistrate also lifted the secrecy surrounding the investigation into the case.
According to a report in the 'Estado de S. Paulo' newspaper this past weekend, the senator is being investigated by the Supreme Federal Court for money laundering and concealment of assets, due to an alleged partnership in the company Diamond Mountain.
In Brazil, the company focuses on raising funds from state-owned pension funds, Petrobras suppliers, and private companies.
According to a complaint filed by a former partner, Lobão secretly joined the holding company between 2011 and 2012 and was represented by lawyer Marcio Coutinho.
The senator, who is also cited in the Lava Jato investigation as a beneficiary of the corruption scheme at Petrobras, denies the allegations.
