Lobão wants a copy of the contractor's testimony.
In a new petition filed with the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Senator Edison Lobão (PMDB-MA) requested a copy of the content of the plea bargain testimony of Ricardo Pessoa, owner of UTC Construções. The request had already been denied by Justice Teori Zavascki, the case's rapporteur, but now Justice Celso de Mello will make the final decision. Pessoa allegedly stated in his plea bargain that he paid a bribe of R$ 1 million to Lobão when he was Minister of Mines and Energy; in exchange, the now-senator allegedly favored UTC and the consortium responsible for the construction of the Angra 3 nuclear power plant.
Maranhao 247 - In a new petition filed with the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Senator Edison Lobão (PMDB-MA) requested a copy of the content of the plea bargain testimony of Ricardo Pessoa, owner of UTC Construções. This information comes from Josias de Souza's Blog. The request had already been denied by Justice Teori Zavascki, the case's rapporteur, but now Justice Celso de Mello will make the final decision.
Pessoa reportedly stated in his plea bargain testimony that he paid a bribe of R$ 1 million to Lobão when he was Minister of Mines and Energy. In exchange, the now-senator allegedly favored UTC and the consortium that is carrying out the construction of the Angra 3 nuclear power plant, scheduled for completion in 2018.
It is alleged that, while Teori Zavascki denies Lobão the right to make copies of the contractor's depositions, "media outlets throughout the country are disseminating and reporting on the content of these same documents, even though—in this case—there is a legal prohibition that expressly forbids such media outlets from accessing the terms of the plea bargain."
"It's time to put an end to this systematic and criminal leaking of classified information to the press," the petition states. "The issue here is not the disclosure of such information itself, but the moment immediately preceding it, the act of leaking."
