Lobão hires Kakay to defend himself before the Supreme Court.
Senator and former Minister of Mines and Energy Edison Lobão (PMDB-MA) has hired lawyer Antonio Carlos de Almeida Castro, known as Kakay, to defend him before the Supreme Federal Court (STF). Kakay, who helped protect advertising executive Duda Mendonça from conviction in the Mensalão corruption scandal, stated that there is no confirmation as to whether Lobão is the target of any of the requests for investigation filed by Attorney General Rodrigo Janot. His lawyer affirmed that if the expectation of lifting the secrecy of the investigations this week is not met, he may appeal to the STF to obtain information about the charges against the former minister.

According to Kakay, there is no confirmation whether Lobão is the target of any of the requests for investigation filed by Attorney General Rodrigo Janot. Speaking to Globo, the lawyer stated that if the expectation of lifting the secrecy of the investigations this week is not met, he may appeal to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to obtain information about the charges against the former minister.
"Since speculation is going back and forth, I prefer to wait and see what might happen. We can file a petition requesting a review. As I believe Minister Teori Zavascki will likely order the lifting of the confidentiality, we will wait until Monday," said the lawyer.
Kakay also served as a lawyer for money launderer Alberto Youssef during the Lava Jato Operation investigations, but left the role after Youssef made a plea bargain agreement with the Federal Court of Paraná, where the defendant collaborates with the investigations in exchange for a reduced sentence.
