Lewandowski approves agreement on Wednesday for joint management of Fernando de Noronha between the Federal Government and Pernambuco.
Under the new agreement, both parties have committed to sharing the management of the island, preserving the environment and ensuring the orderly use of the land.
Brazil Agency – Supreme Court Justice Ricardo Lewandowski will approve the agreement between the federal government and the State of Pernambuco for the shared management of the Fernando de Noronha territory. The information was confirmed on Tuesday night (21) by the minister's press office.
The document will be signed today (22), in Recife, during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's visit to the state.
Under the new agreement, both parties have committed to sharing the management of the island, preserving the environment and ensuring the orderly use of the land.
The rules stipulate that the urban perimeter cannot be expanded, and irregular constructions must be prohibited and demolished if they are not in compliance with the archipelago's environmental regulations.
The management of Fernando de Noronha has been questioned in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) after the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro requested that the territory be declared federal property due to alleged non-compliance with the sharing agreement signed in 2002. These allegations have always been contested by the government of Pernambuco. Since 1988, the island has belonged to the state government.
