Maranhao 247 - A team from the State Government inspected, this Friday (15), the works of the Imperatriz Macro-regional Hospital (HMI), which will provide qualified and specialized cancer treatment, with adult oncological care. With 90% of the work already completed, the hospital has 116 beds for hospitalization in the specialties of medical clinic, surgery, oncology, surgical oncology clinic, and 12 more adult ICU beds. The government of Maranhão has already inaugurated macro-regional hospitals in the municipalities of Pinheiro and Caxias. The delivery of the health macro-regional hospital in the city of Imperatriz should be inaugurated in the first half of August.

The unit also has physiotherapists, speech therapists, social workers, psychologists, and a nutritionist. Across these four specialties, the hospital has the capacity to treat 5.894 patients per year and 288 patients per month in the ICU.

“We have here a medium and high complexity hospital that will provide a boost to hospital medical care in the region. The Health Department is already making all the projections for equipment and medical teams,” explained the Secretary of Communication and Political Affairs of the State, Márcio Jerry, during a visit to the health unit.

The hospital's services will focus on oncology patients and the general population in medical and surgical clinics. In total, the population of four Regional Health Units (URS) such as Imperatriz, Açailândia, Balsas, and Barra do Corda will benefit from the care, totaling 43 municipalities.

The hospital will offer three types of care: outpatient, inpatient, and Diagnostic and Treatment Support Service (SADT). It will have 26 beds for internal medicine, 26 for surgical care, 26 for oncology, 26 for oncological surgery, and 12 beds in the Adult ICU. In total, there will be 116 beds.

The secretary further explained that the state government's effort to inaugurate the health units also aims to guarantee the proper functioning of the hospitals. “Many look at the physical construction, which is expensive, but what is more challenging is making the hospital function. The macro-regional hospitals cost between R$ 3,5 and 4 million. It has been an act of great boldness and courage, in addition to the political and administrative will of Governor Flávio Dino, to make these hospitals work,” said Jerry.

In addition to cancer treatment, the hospital will offer a variety of medical specialties, including cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gynecology, mastology, hematology, pain management, orthopedic oncology, proctology, urology, gastroenterology, psychology, and plastic surgery.
