Governor Flávio Dino delivered a High School and a Full Unit of the Maranhão Institute of Education (Iema). With the works, the state administration is implementing a new model of education, structured and of quality, for the thousands of students in the Munim Region.

The inauguration agenda began in Axixá at 8:30 am, in the Santa Rosa village, on BR-402, with the delivery of IEMA, the first full-time vocational technical education unit in the municipality. Governor Flávio Dino highlighted the importance of the project for the region. “Axixá is a very important city, and we couldn't fail to complete this project, which was a desire of the region's school community. With IEMA, it's possible to combine high school education with professional certification, providing opportunities for other levels of education and, of course, higher education. It's a successful project that will be consolidated here in the Munim Region,” emphasized Governor Flávio Dino.

For Mayor Sônia Campos, the inauguration of the building is a dream come true. “I thank the governor on behalf of our population and all the mayors in the region who will benefit from this educational unit. It was a cause we championed,” she emphasized. She recalled that the construction of a vocational training center was a proposal that had been stalled for years and, thanks to the governor's commitment, was finally completed. “It was a dream to deliver the first full-time school in the Munim Region, and today we are making that dream a reality with the inauguration of IEMA,” she pointed out.

The Secretary of State for Education (Seduc), Felipe Camarão, emphasized that the Iema network is one of Governor Flávio Dino's strategies to implement full-time education in Maranhão. “Iema fills the demand for vocational training in the region. It is a policy of fundamental importance to strengthen education and the 'Escola Digna' program in Maranhão. The full-time Iema units offer formal education combined with full-time vocational training. The goal is to implement 23 units in Maranhão by 2018,” he said.

The Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Innovation (Secti), Jonathan Almada, assessed the moment as very significant for Education. “Today is a day of great joy for all of us, with the inauguration of yet another Iema unit, the result of the serious work of Governor Flávio Dino, which demonstrates respect for the population. It is another important project that strengthens the consolidation of full-time education in the state, and more units will be delivered,” he noted.

Preparing for university and having the chance to become a professional is what student Maria Emanuelle Protásio aspires to. “I hope they can expand this wonderful work they are doing, giving us the opportunity to choose a profession and prepare for higher education, which is what I intend to do. Congratulations to the Government for this initiative,” she said. Young Emilly Dalila assessed the full-time education program as the greatest benefit of Iema. “It’s more study time, more knowledge and learning. It certainly improves our education even more, in addition to offering the chance to prepare ourselves for the job market.”

The Institute has four classrooms to initially serve 160 students, with a capacity for up to 500 students, offering courses in electrotechnics and computer science. The population of Morros, Presidente Juscelino, Cachoeira, and Humberto de Campos, as well as other municipalities in the Munim Region, will benefit. Classes begin on March 3rd.
