Bolsonaro government denies authorization for Argentina to send humanitarian aid to Bahia.

Argentina offered to immediately send ten professionals specializing in water, sanitation, logistics, and psychosocial support for disaster victims.

The offer made by Alberto Fernández's government included sending 10 members of the White Helmets Commission. In a response sent to the Argentine embassy rejecting the offered aid, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that its personnel and financial resources are sufficient, with a reserve of R$ 200 million to address the emergency. However, the resources from the Provisional Measure specifically allocated to Bahia amount to only R$ 50 million.

In total, 24 people died as a result of the heavy rains in Bahia. According to the Superintendency of Civil Protection and Defense (Sudec), 91.258 people were left homeless or displaced, and 629.398 people were affected by the rain. The number of injured increased from 358 to 434. As of Wednesday, 136 cities are under a state of emergency decree.

Earlier, Governor Rui Costa appealed for authorization for the foreign mission. "With united efforts, we will overcome this difficult moment. Now, the Argentinian mission awaits authorization from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so they can come to Bahia. I thank the Argentinians and ask the Federal Government for swift authorization for the foreign mission," he wrote.
