Flávio Dino sees a "terminal crisis" in politics.
The Governor of Maranhão commented this Tuesday, the 7th, on the arrest warrants issued by the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodrigo Janot, against Renan Calheiros, Romero Jucá, Eduardo Cunha, and José Sarney, former President of the Republic and former Governor of Maranhão; "For the people of Maranhão, this is certainly not surprising, because unfortunately, for a long time these political leaders have dedicated themselves to a type of politics in which the misuse of public resources is a constant," he stated, referring to Sarney; according to him, "when influential leaders like Sarney, Renan, and Jucá are the targets of arrest warrants, it is a sign that we have a terminal crisis in this political system."
Maranhao 247 – The governor of Maranhão, Flávio Dino (PCdoB), commented this Tuesday, the 7th, on the arrest warrants issued by the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodrigo Janot, against Renan Calheiros, Romero Jucá, Eduardo Cunha, and José Sarney, former President of the Republic and former Governor of the State.
"For the people of Maranhão, this is certainly not surprising, because unfortunately, for a long time these political leaders have dedicated themselves to a type of politics in which the misuse of public resources is a constant," said Dino, referring to Sarney, during a ceremony in which he delivered new vehicles to the police.
He did, however, deliver an optimistic message. The arrest warrant is "something frightening, impactful, but at the same time it signals a renewal of Brazilian politics, with new practices, new stances. Based on this thorough investigation that Lava Jato has promoted, it is necessary to have the capacity to form new power blocs, new leaders, so that we can rebuild Brazilian institutions."
"We are witnessing the end of an era in Brazilian history," the governor continued. According to Dino, "when influential leaders like Sarney, Renan, and Jucá are targeted for arrest warrants, it signals a terminal crisis in this political system."
"Because I think the underlying issue is this: democracy has completely lost its functionality because when influential leaders like Sarney, Renan, and Jucá are targeted for arrest warrants, it shows that, in my view, we have a terminal crisis in this political system that was constituted primarily after the end of the military dictatorship," he concluded.
