Eduardo Girão withdraws his candidacy to strengthen Bolsonaro supporter Rogério Marinho in the Senate.
The senator from Podemos-CE had launched his candidacy on his own initiative and without the party's nomination.
247 - Senator Eduardo Girão (Podemos-CE) withdrew his candidacy for the presidency of the Senate to give more votes to Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), who will contest the election along with Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), the current president of the Legislature. The election in the Upper House takes place this Wednesday (1).
Girão launched his candidacy in December, on his own initiative and without the endorsement of his party, Podemos.
Pacheco has the support of at least four parties - PSD, PT, PDT, MDB and PSDB. Together they hold 42 senatorial seats, one more than the 41 needed for a candidate to win the election in the first round.
Marinho has the official support of the PL, PP, and Republicanos parties. These parties have a combined total of 23 senators.
