Dino: 2017 will be better for the economy of Maranhão.

The governor of Maranhão, Flávio Dino, stated that 2017 will be a year of increased investments; "Because we have, first of all, not only BNDES operations that we are executing but also new operations. We have already signed two credit agreements with Caixa Econômica, totaling more than R$ 500 million, money that will go towards urban mobility, roads, vehicles, water"; when questioned about how to face the economic crisis, Flávio Dino stated that he bases his strategy on a duality. "On one hand, public investments; on the other, social policies. This is our strategy, a strategy in which we believe."

Maranhao 247- The governor of Maranhão, Flávio Dino, stated that 2017 will be a year of increased investments. "Because we have, first of all, not only BNDES operations that we are executing, but also new operations. We have already signed two credit agreements with Caixa Econômica, totaling more than R$ 500 million, money that will go towards urban mobility, roads, vehicles, and water," he said.

When questioned about how to confront the economic crisis, Flávio Dino stated that he bases his strategy on a duality. "On one hand, public investments; on the other, social policies. This is our strategy, a strategy in which we believe. So, is it important to have the Bolsa Escola program for a million children? It is important, but it's as important for them as it is for 1.400 merchants who will sell 52,55 million reais worth of school supplies this January and February, a period when practically nobody sells anything in retail," he added.

The governor said he does not believe that Maranhão will face an economic collapse like Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, and Minas Gerais, which have declared a state of financial emergency. "I don't believe so. I don't believe that for two reasons: first, we have been very careful with revenue. And this is sometimes very controversial. Because the word itself says it all. The word is tax. The word is eloquent in itself. It's not something voluntary. It's a compulsory obligation imposed on citizens to finance public activities. We have been very careful with collection, from combating tax evasion, which is a measure of fiscal justice, to making adjustments to the laws," he added.

The head of the Maranhão state government gave a positive assessment of his administration, saying that despite the national economic crisis, he feels "happy to be able to reach this mid-term stage, first and foremost, with a well-regarded government, a credible government, and a program being implemented."

"Just now, this Friday (December 30th), a survey by G1 came out showing that our government is in second place in Brazil among those that have best fulfilled their commitments," he told Jornal Pequeno. "Works are being inaugurated, social programs are being implemented. So there is a paradox between a difficult contextual political situation and at the same time good results in Maranhão," he added. It is worth noting that the governor was mistaken. According to the survey, the state executive is in third place, behind São Paulo and Goiás, as published on the government's own website (see here).
