CNJ decides to remove José Sarney's sister-in-law from the Court of Justice of Maranhão.

The National Council of Justice stated that Nelma Celeste Sousa Silva Sarney Costa used her position to help a former advisor pass a notary public exam in the state.

247 - The National Council of Justice (CNJ) has suspended, for a period of two years, Judge Nelma Celeste Sousa Silva Sarney Costa, sister-in-law of former President José Sarney, from her position in the Court of Justice of Maranhão (TJ-MA).

According to information published in the Fausto Macedo's blogThe CNJ (National Council of Justice) stated that she used her position to help a former advisor, with whom she worked between 1991 and 2014, to pass a notary public exam in the state.

Lawyer Luiz Fernando Vieira Martins, responsible for defending the judge in the disciplinary proceedings, denies that she was biased. "There is no testimonial evidence to suggest that she was a friend of the former aide."
