A city in the interior of Bahia state registers an earthquake.
A low-magnitude event was identified by LabSis/UFRN, which also monitors other recent tremors in Bahia.
247 - A slight earthquake was recorded on the morning of last Wednesday (26) in Jacobina, in the north-central region of Bahia. The information comes from the Seismological Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (LabSis/UFRN), responsible for seismic monitoring in Brazil.
The tremor was detected at 6:51 AM, with a magnitude of 1.5 on the Richter scale. Despite the technical record, residents of the city, which has approximately 82,5 inhabitants, did not feel the tremor, according to the laboratory, as highlighted by the newspaper. Mail.
Jacobina was not the only city in Bahia to register seismic activity in March. A day earlier, on Tuesday (25), a detonation with a magnitude of 1.8 was recorded in Campo Formoso. Amargosa, in the interior of the state, recorded two tremors in less than six hours. With magnitudes of 1.9 and 2.2, these tremors were even felt by the local population, according to experts from LabSis.
Although the events are of low intensity and do not represent risks, the laboratory emphasizes the importance of constant monitoring to understand the geological activity of the region. LabSis continues to track records throughout the national territory, regularly updating its database on seismic occurrences.
