247 - The ports of Northeast Brazil registered significant growth in the first half of 2025, handling 150,5 million tons of cargo, according to a report by the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (Antaq). The result, released by Agência Gov on August 18, 2025, represents an increase of 1,2 million tons compared to the same period last year, driven by iron ore, oil, and grains.

The Ponta da Madeira Maritime Terminal (MA) remained the largest port in the region, responsible for 75,2 million tons, mainly of iron ore. The Port of Itaqui (MA) handled 17,2 million tons, combining fuels and agricultural products. This logistical performance directly reflects the growth of Maranhão's GDP, which increased by 1,9% in the first quarter of 2025, exceeding the national average.

In Pernambuco, the Suape Industrial Port Complex reached 10,9 million tons during the period, with vehicle exports being a highlight. Between January and June alone, 37.668 automobiles were shipped through the terminal.

In Bahia, the Madre de Deus Waterway Terminal, specializing in petroleum derivatives, handled 9,9 million tons. Meanwhile, the Port of Pecém (CE) registered 9,5 million tons of diverse cargo, including fertilizers and grains, essential for the agribusiness chain.
