Maranhao 247 - The governor of Maranhão, Flávio Dino, signed, this Tuesday (16), service orders to begin the works of reform and improvement of the supply system of the municipality of Barra do Corda and to begin the paving of MA-012, in the 54 kilometers of the stretch that connects the municipality to São Raimundo do Doca Bezerra. The services foresee improvements in the intake system, the pump house and raw water pipeline; the recovery of the Treatment Plant, in the Treated Water Pumping Station (ETE-AT); and the implementation of 5.281 m of network in the distribution system. The work has investments of R$ 1,9 million and will directly benefit 85 people. The services are part of the actions of the 'Water for All' program, which aims to guarantee full supply in all regions of Maranhão.
Welcomed with great celebration by a crowd in Barra do Corda, Governor Flávio Dino expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be in the municipality for the third time this year, bringing improvements to the population of the entire region. “Every time I come here, we bring a concrete benefit. I came to organize a large community outreach program for retirees. Then we launched the 'More Asphalt' program and inaugurated the Medical Specialties Center, which has already served 12 people. We also inaugurated the 'Viva' center to serve the city of Barra do Corda and the entire region,” he highlighted.
According to the governor, the Maranhão Environmental Sanitation Company (Caema) has a debt to the people of Barra do Corda, as this is a city that has a river but no running water in people's homes. “And despite Brazil's financial difficulties, we are making this investment, which begins today. Because when I come to the municipality, I don't like to just sign the paperwork. How many have come here to Barra do Corda to sign paperwork? So, when I come, I sign the work order, but the machines are already in the city. And Caema's machines are already here, and the work begins today,” he emphasized.
According to the CEO of Caema, Davi Telles, the agency had not made any improvements to the water supply system in 25 years. And, as soon as Governor Flávio Dino took office, he prioritized a survey of the municipalities in the worst situation in Maranhão. “We discovered that the water supply system in Barra do Corda was at a dramatic level. That is why we came here, we created a project, and in a short period of time we are fulfilling this commitment,” Telles reiterated.
MA-012
Governor Flávio Dino and the Secretary of Infrastructure, Clayton Noleto, were also received with great celebration in São Raimundo do Doca Bezerra to sign the service order for the paving of MA-012, which begins in two phases, in the municipality and in Barra do Corda. The highway will benefit more than 35 people from the largest villages in the region, and is a decades-long desire of the local population.
According to Flávio Dino, the 54 km stretch is part of the project to connect the Sertão Maranhense region, from the South-Central region to the Médio Mearim region. “This road is important for the villages, not only because it connects two municipalities in the region, but because it passes through many communities and is a way for us to stimulate production, agriculture, work, and provide a better quality of life for children, young people, and everyone who needs healthcare and needs to go to the bank to resolve their problems, for example,” the governor emphasized.
Secretary Clayton Noleto emphasized that this project is another commitment from the Government of Maranhão and is part of a larger project paving over 1000 km of highways throughout the state. “The project costs approximately R$ 36 million for 54 km of road to be built, and the company is here, mobilized with two work fronts, in São Raimundo do Doca Bezerra and Barra do Corda, to ensure the work is completed on time. The estimated completion time is one and a half years,” he explained.
Wanderley Castro, a resident of the village of Barro Branco, located 18 kilometers from Barra do Corda, highlighted that the MA-012 highway presents all sorts of difficulties, such as potholes, mud during the rainy season, and dust, which leaves the houses in the communities along the road dirty and poses health risks. “After the paving, everything will be better. This will become a neighborhood of Barra do Corda; today, it takes us half an hour, and it will take 10 to 15 minutes. It will be 100% better,” he celebrated.
