Bahia: Jerônimo's government will prioritize communication as a human right.
The collective for the right to communication, Pauta Negra, delivered a letter with proposals for communication policies to the next state government.
247 - The incoming Secretary of Justice and Human Rights and member of the Bahia state government's transition team, Felipe Freitas, received a letter with proposals to guarantee the human right to communication in the state for the next government. The meeting took place on Thursday (December 22nd) at the Desenbahia headquarters. The letter was drafted and delivered by representatives of the Coletivo Pauta Negra, which brings together organizations, networks, and Black communicators from Bahia.
According to Freitas, communication as a right is an important agenda item for the new government of Bahia. "We are attentive to the demands to discuss important issues such as expanding broadband access in Bahia, strengthening IRDEB, and promoting communication production throughout the state," says the future Secretary.
The letter delivered to Felipe contains proposals addressed to various departments that work for the right to communication, such as the Department of Culture, the Department of Education, and especially the Department of Communication. The letter can be read at this link.
The Pauta Negra Bahia Collective is composed of Black communicators from Bahia, with the main goal of highlighting issues related to the promotion of human rights for Black people, with a special focus on the right to communication and political participation, from an Afrocentric perspective.
