A 1.159% increase in two weeks: the growth of Covid-19 in Alagoas is unprecedented in the country.
In the case of deaths, there was an almost tenfold increase in two weeks, from April 15th to April 30th.
247 - The state of Alagoas experienced an unprecedented increase in coronavirus cases among the country's federative units, jumping from 83 to 1.045 cases in two weeks – between April 15th and 30th – an increase of 1.159%. Regarding deaths, while there were only five deaths in the state on April 15th, by the end of the month, 47 deaths had already been recorded – a number almost 10 times higher.
"We were alarmed by this because it reveals that we are already in an advanced stage of community transmission and that our data is still not very transparent," says Professor Sérgio Henrique Albuquerque Lira of the Physics Institute at Ufal (Federal University of Alagoas), who participates in a monitoring group that tracks COVID-19 in the state.
