247 - Families of approximately 300 children in Recife were surprised by Amil Assistência Médica's decision to remove five clinics specializing in autism care from their network. This information was published on the journalist's blog. Ricardo AntunesThe measure abruptly halted patient treatment, generating outrage and concern among clients.

Among the clinics whose services have been removed from the health insurance provider's network are Desenvolver, Construir, Espaço Evolução, Somar, and the Instituto do Autismo (Autism Institute). Many parents affected by the decision organized a protest on the 17th in front of the Amil Medical Center, in Praça do Derby, to demand solutions and more dignified care for their children.

One of the mothers, whose 11-year-old son had been receiving treatment at the Desenvolver clinic since 2018, lamented the situation. "It's a distressing situation," she stated. She highlighted the quality of care, which included school support with a therapist. The client even requested a six-month period from Amil so that her son could be gradually discharged and adapted to a new clinic, but the request was denied.

With the discrediting, Amil concentrated autism care in three units of the Mundos Clinic, a result of a partnership with the Unimed plan. However, according to reports, the therapy model offered by Mundos is not considered efficient by parents. Furthermore, families face difficulties scheduling appointments, with waiting lists that compromise the continuity of treatment. "It's an injustice and an endless sadness, the care Amil provides for autism," lamented another client, who pays almost R$ 2 monthly for the plan.

Amil's decision also raised questions about the impact on the children's quality of life. Experts emphasize that abrupt interruptions in treatment can compromise therapeutic progress, especially in conditions such as autism, which require consistent and personalized interventions.

Contacted for comment, Amil did not respond to the questions. The families continue to demand solutions from the health insurance company and are evaluating other legal measures to guarantee the children's right to quality care.
