Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), determined this Thursday (9) the dismissal of the lawyers who act in the defense of two defendants in Nucleus 2 of the coup plot that occurred in the government of Jair Bolsonaro.
The decision involves lawyers Eduardo Kuntz and Jeffrey Chiquini, who represent defendants Marcelo Câmara and Filipe Martins, respectively.
Câmara is a former advisor to Jair Bolsonaro, and Martins held the position of advisor for international affairs during the former president's administration.
According to Moraes, the lawyers did not present the final arguments, the last phase before the trial, and had “unusual” behavior to carry out a “delaying maneuver”. The deadline ended on Tuesday (7).
"The behavior of the defendants' lawyers is absolutely unusual, even constituting bad faith litigation, due to the admission of an intention to delay the proceedings, without any legal basis," said Moraes.
With this decision, the minister determined that the defendants' defense will be handled by the Federal Public Defender's Office (DPU).

In a press release, Kuntz stated that the allegations will be submitted by October 23rd, meeting the 15-day deadline. According to the lawyer, the deadline began on October 8th, the date on which a request for information submitted by the defense and authorized by Moraes was added to the case file.
"This duly constituted legal defense team informs that it will take the necessary steps to remain in the proceedings, exercising its unwavering professional independence, respecting constitutional guarantees and the Court," the defense stated.
