After nine days of hospitalization for pneumonia at the Samaritano Hospital in Rio's south zone, architect Oscar Niemeyer is in stable condition; at 104 years old, he is breathing without the aid of machines and is lucid, according to the medical team.

Stephania Mello_247 - The medical team at Hospital Samaritano, which is taking care of architect Oscar Niemeyer's health, reported that it suspended antibiotic treatment for pneumonia this Thursday (10). He has been hospitalized since the 02nd, in Botafogo, south of Rio de Janeiro.

Even though his condition is stable, the 104-year-old artist remains in the Intermediate Care Unit, lucid and breathing without the aid of machines.

Read the full text of the medical bulletin released this Thursday by the Samaritano press office:

"Oscar Niemeyer, 104 years old, remains hospitalized at the Samaritano Hospital in Botafogo, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro."

According to Dr. Fernando Gjorup, after a visit today, May 10, 2012, the patient's clinical condition remains stable.

Oscar Niemeyer is in the Intermediate Care Unit (ICU) and, today, his antibiotic treatment was suspended.

The patient is lucid and breathing without the aid of machines.

The medical team treating him will issue a new bulletin in 24 hours.

There is no forecast for an increase in the number of people expected to rise.
