Brasilia Agency - The unemployment rate in the Federal District remained stable in July, at 12,1%, the lowest rate for the month since 1992, according to the Employment and Unemployment Survey (PED-DF), released today by the Federal District Planning Company (Codeplan).

Research by Codeplan, in partnership with the Secretariat of Labor and the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), indicated that, in the same period last year, the unemployment rate was 12,7%, and that, since then, 1,6% more jobs have been created.

"The fact that we have generated 20 jobs in the Federal District since June of last year is still a result below the potential of the Federal District's economy, but it is significant because it signals a falling unemployment rate," said the president of Codeplan, Júlio Miragaya.

According to the Secretary of Labor of the Federal District, Bishop Renato Andrade, a greater increase in the number of jobs is expected starting in October of this year.

"For us, this data represents a gain. We can directly demonstrate that formalization, through our programs, has yielded results," celebrated Renato Andrade.

According to Max Leno de Almeida, supervisor of the regional office of Dieese, the unemployed population was estimated at 177 people in July of this year.

Among the sectors analyzed, the following showed growth: Manufacturing (15,0%), Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (3,8%), Services (0,8%), and the Public Administration, Defense and Social Security subsector (4,7%).

Miragaya also highlighted the increase in the formalization of the labor market. "The number of jobs with formal contracts also increased by 20 in the last 12 months, representing an increase of 2,4%, above population growth," he added.

The PED also indicated that the Industry and Civil Construction sectors are beginning to show signs of recovery, with a slight increase in the number of formal jobs.
