Tarcísio will go to Brasília on the same day as Bolsonaro's trial at the Supreme Court.
The governor of São Paulo participates in meetings about amnesty while the former governor is on trial in a criminal case related to a coup plot.
247 - The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), will be in Brasília this Tuesday (2), amidst official agendas considered “bureaucratic”. According to the CNN BrazilTarcísio's main agenda in the federal capital will be the discussion about amnesty. The date coincides with the beginning of the trial of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and seven other defendants in the process about the attempted coup, analyzed by the First Panel of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
Despite the coincidence of dates, there is currently no indication that Tarcísio will visit Bolsonaro or attend the trial in person. Sources close to the governor, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that the task of coordinating the amnesty was delegated to him by the former governor himself.
Tarcísio's formal schedule in Brasília only includes a meeting with the Director-General of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), Sandoval Feitosa, scheduled for 15 pm. However, according to the report, allies of the governor say he will try to make time for meetings related to the amnesty agenda.
One of the main targets is the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). However, sources close to Motta indicate resistance to addressing the issue precisely on the day the Supreme Court begins Bolsonaro's trial, a fact considered symbolic in the political landscape.
This Monday (1), Tarcísio called Hugo Motta to discuss the possibility of moving forward with the project that provides amnesty for those investigated for the coup plot and for the anti-democratic acts that culminated in the invasion and depredation of Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília, on January 8, 2023. The move reinforces the governor's willingness to take a leading role in this debate in Congress.
In recent days, Tarcísio has also made public statements that strengthen this narrative. He declared that, should he be elected president of the Republic, his first action would be to pardon Jair Bolsonaro.
The governor's presence in Brasília, therefore, occurs at a time of strong political tension, in which the judicial developments of the former president and the parliamentary maneuvers surrounding the amnesty intersect.
