Superior Court of Justice (STJ) annuls Adriana Villela's conviction.
The architect had been convicted of ordering the murder of her parents, José Guilherme and Maria Villela, and a family employee.
247 - The Sixth Panel of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) decided this Tuesday (2) to annul the jury that had sentenced architect Adriana Villela to 61 years in prison. She had been sentenced as the mastermind behind the murder of her parents, José Guilherme and Maria Villela, and the family's employee, Francisca Nascimento da Silva.
According to the ministers, the decision fulfills the defense's request, which alleged a denial of due process in the proceedings. The lawyers argued that they did not have access to relevant evidence, including the testimony of another defendant who pointed to Adriana as responsible for ordering the crimes.
The decision does not mean acquittal. The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) considered that there were flaws in the conduct of the trial, since the defense did not have access to the same evidence presented by the prosecution, which compromised the fairness of the process.
