Brasilia Agency – An audience of over 200 people is expected at the New Year's Eve celebration on the Esplanade of Ministries, and to ensure that nothing disrupts the participants' enjoyment, a special security plan has been put in place. A force of one thousand military police officers will be working at the location, in addition to 67 firefighters and 35 civil police officers, a number that, according to the Security Secretariat, is sufficient for this type of event.
The Deputy Secretary of Public Security of the DF, Colonel Roberto Oliveira, said, this Monday (30), in a press conference, that the biggest concern is with thefts in general. "Last year we had a very peaceful New Year's Eve, with no reports of homicides or problems with fights, but we had some thefts of vehicles and objects in general. We are concerned this year to minimize these occurrences as much as possible," he said.
According to the colonel, all participants will be searched upon arrival at the venue, either at the Plano Piloto Bus Station or via the stairs located behind the ministry buildings. "We will primarily target those carrying backpacks or bags. We want to ensure that everyone has a peaceful New Year's Eve without unpleasant incidents," he stated.
The identification of children was also raised as another relevant point by Colonel Gilson Oliveira Leal of the Military Police. According to him, since there are many people gathered in the same place, it is essential that the children are properly identified. "Everyone should have a piece of paper in their pocket with their name, parents' names, phone number, and address, so that we can contact their family members if they get lost," he said.
In total, 68 vehicles will provide security for the event, including 52 from the Military Police, 12 from the Fire Department, and four from the Civil Police. In addition, eight ICUs and two medical posts will be ready to serve the public on the Esplanade. The Department of Traffic (Detran) reported that at least 40 breathalyzers will be used in the inspections, and the Military Police will use one breathalyzer at each of the 22 checkpoints that will be set up in the central region of Brasília.
TRAFFIC - Traffic control will be the responsibility of the Military Police, who announced the closure of the N1 and S1 roads, starting at 16 pm this Tuesday (31), for the circulation of vehicles from the height of the National Congress to the Plano Piloto Bus Station. At this time, drivers will be able to use the N2 and S2 roads, which are behind the ministries.
PARKING - The Secretary of Public Security advises people to use public transportation to attend the festivities; however, those who prefer to arrive by car can park behind the ministries. Parking at the Brasília Cathedral will be available for people with disabilities and those over 65 years of age, who will have until 14 PM on the 31st to use the space.
TRANSPORTATION The metro will operate on a special schedule until midnight on Tuesday (31), and from midnight to 2 am, boarding will only be possible at the Central station, located at the Plano Piloto Bus Station. Buses from the Plano Piloto Bus Station will operate according to demand from 6 pm this Tuesday (31) to 5 am on January 1st.
