Renan defends 'responsibility' regarding Janot's impeachment.

"What's unusual is that other requests are arriving. From the Senate's point of view, which is not part of the crisis, the Senate is the solution to the crisis, we will have total responsibility with this and we will not overstep our constitutional role," stated the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-RJ), regarding the fact that a new request for the removal of the Attorney General of the Republic was filed in the Senate last night; in total, there are already ten requests for removal; four have been dismissed.

Yara Aquino, from Agência Brasil - A new impeachment request against the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodrigo Janot, was filed in the Senate last night (21). Today (22), during an interview, the President of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), described the arrival of new impeachment requests against Janot at the House as "unusual". There are now ten impeachment requests against the Attorney General, two of them presented this month. Four were dismissed by Renan.

The petition filed yesterday is signed by Gustavo Haddad, a resident of São José dos Campos. According to the author, the Attorney General of the Republic violated his prerogatives by requesting Renan's arrest on suspicion that he was acting to obstruct the investigations of Operation Lava Jato.

In the text, he alleges that "the Attorney General of the Republic has been, contrary to the literal text of the Constitution, carrying out acts clearly aimed at intimidating the Federal Senate. It is absolutely inconceivable that he could – even more so for the absolutely flimsy reasons invoked – request the arrest of senators, especially the president of the House."

"What's unusual is that other requests are arriving. From the Senate's point of view, which is not part of the crisis, the Senate is the solution to the crisis, we will have total responsibility for this and we will not overstep our constitutional role," said Renan Calheiros upon arriving at the Senate.

Renan reported that he sent the request filed last week and amended on Monday (20) to the House's legal counsel for analysis. The amended request was submitted by two lawyers, alleging that Janot gave preferential treatment in the episode in which he asked the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to arrest Renan, Senator Romero Jucá (PMDB-RR) and former President of the Republic José Sarney (PMDB-AP).

The lawyers, linked to entities that advocate for the impeachment of suspended President Dilma Rousseff, argue that Janot should also have asked the Supreme Court to arrest Dilma and former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for allegedly attempting to obstruct the investigations of Operation Lava Jato, when the Workers' Party member sent a document of appointment for her "political godfather" to head the Civil House.

Renan reiterated that the analysis of the impeachment requests is not about "blackmail." "I am absolutely not one to engage in blackmail. Those who know me are aware of this. I simply provided information and sent it to the legal team regarding the amendment," he added.

The Senate president said he expects to conclude the Supersimples vote this Wednesday. "We will conclude the Supersimples vote today, which is a very important matter for resuming economic growth. After the renegotiation of state debts, this matter is perhaps the most important, and we will do everything to conclude it later," he stated.

The update to the rules for classifying companies under the Supersimples was approved yesterday (21), unanimously, in the first vote, with 65 votes in favor. Today, it will be submitted to an extra round of voting. If approved, the text returns to the Chamber, as it underwent modifications in the Senate.
