PT may nominate Paulo Teixeira in the Chamber election.

Faced with strong criticism from leaders and activists, the PT leadership is already talking about backing down in negotiations regarding the election for president of the Chamber of Deputies and not supporting either of the two main candidates, Rodrigo Maia (DEM) and Jovair Arantes (PTB), both participants in the parliamentary coup that deposed President Dilma Rousseff; the party is considering launching a solo candidacy for deputy Paulo Teixeira for president; the party has 57 deputies in its caucus; “The probability of supporting Rodrigo is lower. Support for Jovair was higher, but it has also fallen. André [Figueiredo, PDT candidate] kicked us in the shins, he really messed things up,” says the PT leader, Carlos Zarattini (SP).

Brasilia 247 - Faced with strong criticism from leaders and activists, the PT leadership is already talking about backing down in negotiations regarding the election for president of the Chamber of Deputies and not supporting either of the two main candidates, Rodrigo Maia (DEM) and Jovair Arantes (PTB), both participants in the parliamentary coup that deposed President Dilma Rousseff.

According to the Painel column, the party is considering launching a solo candidacy for Congressman Paulo Teixeira for president. The party has 57 congressmen in its caucus. “The probability of supporting Rodrigo is lower. Support for Jovair was higher, but it has also fallen. André [Figueiredo, PDT candidate] kicked us in the shins, really messed things up,” says the PT leader, Carlos Zarattini (SP).

According to the column, Teixeira's candidacy would give the party a platform to reinforce the "coup" narrative against Temer — and would encourage Maia and Jovair to be more flexible in negotiations with the party. The decision is expected to be made on Tuesday (31).
