PSOL receives opinion against Glauber Braga with indignation and surprise; vote on impeachment request is postponed.
The president of the PSOL party, Paula Coradi, described the report as disproportionate.
247 - Paulo Magalhães (PSD-BA), rapporteur of the process against Glauber Braga (Psol-RJ) in the Chamber of Deputies, presented a favorable opinion for the removal of the parliamentarian at a meeting of the Ethics Council this Wednesday (2), leading the president of Psol, Paula Coradi, to classify the report as disproportionate.
According to the opinion, Braga committed misconduct by kicking out a member of the Free Brazil Movement (MBL) from inside the House in April 2024, after an argument in which the right-wing extremist provoked the parliamentarian. "It is imperative to admit that the defendant, through his actions, effectively engaged in misconduct, and in the case under examination, the sanction of loss of mandate is applicable," the document states.
The leader described the opinion as "absurd." "The Ethics Committee shelves numerous cases, such as those of the coup plotters of January 8th, and acts this way against a left-wing congressman from PSOL. It's absurd. There is no reason to propose a punishment of this nature. PSOL views this disproportionate action with the utmost indignation and surprise," Coradi stated in a note.
Congressman Chico Alencar (Psol-RJ) requested a review of the process. With this, the report should be voted on in the next session and, if approved, will go to the Chamber's plenary, which will decide on the possible revocation of the mandate.
The member of the far-right group systematically harassed Glauber, both in Brasília and Rio de Janeiro, and hurled insults at the congressman's mother.
