President of the Ethics Council dismisses complaint against Jucá.
The president of the Senate Ethics Council, João Alberto (PMDB-MA), decided this Tuesday (7) to shelve the representation that requested the removal of Senator Romero Jucá (PMDB-RR) from office on suspicion of trying to interfere in Operation Lava Jato; “I decided to dismiss it, I do not acknowledge it, there are no documents to support the representation. There is nothing [in the representation]. I shelved the representation due to lack of supporting documents, there are no documents. It only cites newspaper clippings,” said Senator João Alberto; the author of the request, Senator Telmário Mota (PDT-RR), will appeal.
247 - The president of the Senate Ethics Council, João Alberto (PMDB-MA), decided this Tuesday (7) to shelve the representation that requested the removal of Senator Romero Jucá (PMDB-RR) from office on suspicion of trying to interfere in Operation Lava Jato.
Jucá was recorded by former Transpetro president Sérgio Machado, a whistleblower in the Lava Jato corruption scandal, saying that politicians should make a "pact" to "stop the bleeding" caused by the operation. After the release of the audios, Jucá resigned from his position as Minister of Planning in the government of acting president Michel Temer.
"I decided to reject it, I don't take cognizance of it, there are no documents to support the representation. There's nothing [in the representation]. I archived the representation due to lack of supporting documents, there are no documents. It only cites newspaper clippings," Senator João Alberto told G1.
The president of the Ethics Council further explained that the author of the complaint – the PDT party, through Senator Telmário Mota (PDT-RR) – may appeal to the full Ethics Council.
"I decided to reject it. I don't take cognizance of it; there are no documents to support the complaint. There's nothing [in the complaint]. I archived the complaint due to a lack of supporting documents; there are no documents at all. It only cites newspaper clippings," Senator João Alberto told G1.
Telmário Mota said he will appeal João Alberto's decision. “I will appeal tomorrow, I will submit it to the full Ethics Council. He decided to shelve it claiming there are no elements, but there are the same elements as the representation that revoked Delcídio's mandate. And now, there are even new facts, which I will attach, which was the request for Jucá's arrest made by Janot,” Telmário said.
