On Friday, the Federal Police questioned the former head of the GSI (Institutional Security Office), retired General Gonçalves Dias, who denied any involvement with the radicals. According to him, there was a "blackout" in the intelligence system that resulted in a lack of crucial information for decision-making.
Dias resigned after images released by CNN showed him directing the radicals to the exit on the third floor of the building. He explained that, following protocol, they would be arrested when they reached the second floor.
Moraes also ordered the GSI to lift the secrecy surrounding the security camera footage from the Planalto Palace on January 8th. The images were delivered to the STF along with an internal investigation opened to examine the conduct of the employees.
Ricardo Cappelli, executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice, has assumed full command of the Institutional Security Office.
