247 - The Federal Police (PF) summoned two people to testify in the investigation into the jewels given to the Brazilian government by Saudi Arabia: Júlio César Vieira Gomes, former head of the Federal Revenue Service, and Mauro Cid, former aide to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Initial testimonies from Vieira Gomes and Cid indicated that Bolsonaro was aware of the jewelry. The former head of the Internal Revenue Service told the Federal Police that he learned about the items in a meeting with the former president in 2022. Colonel Cid also stated that he had been informed about the Saudi gift by Bolsonaro.
According to the law, gifts are considered property of the Brazilian State and not personal belongings. One of the packages contained jewelry valued at approximately R$ 16,5 million.
