247 - The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), stated this Wednesday (1st) that the "toxic polarization" in the country must be "eradicated". After being re-elected to the presidency of the House, the parliamentarian criticized the coup-like acts of January 8th, when supporters of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) invaded the National Congress, the Planalto Palace, where the office of the Presidency of the Republic is located, and the Supreme Federal Court.

"Brazilians need to return to disagreeing civilly, they need to recognize defeat with absolute sobriety, and they need to respect the authority of public institutions," said Pacheco. "The toxic polarization needs to be eradicated from our country. Events like those that occurred here in this National Congress and in the Praça dos Três Poderes on January 08, 2023, cannot and will not be repeated."

According to the senator, "pacification does not mean remaining silent in the face of coup attempts." "Pacification is seeking cooperation. Pacification is fighting for the truth. Pacification is abandoning the 'us versus them' discourse and understanding that Brazil is immense and diverse, but it is one. Brazil is one," stated the president of the Senate and Congress. "Democracy stands strong thanks to the work of those who are willing to engage in dialogue, not confrontation. And we will continue to stand, defending and honoring our nation."

The parliamentarian also highlighted the partnerships that will be necessary with the Lula government For Brazil to resume economic growth and social rights.
