247 - The secret budget, which has been used by Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to buy support in the National Congress, may be coming to an end, according to Carolina Brígido, from UOLMinisters of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) are working behind the scenes to schedule the trial – for after the elections – which could determine the illegality of rapporteur amendments, the basis for the distribution of secret amendments that constitute the so-called secret budget.

The president of the Supreme Court, Justice Rosa Weber, is the rapporteur for the case and can schedule it whenever she wants.

"On the day of Rosa's inauguration as president of the STF, one of the Court's ministers jokingly told the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Artur Lira (PP-AL), that the court was ready to overturn the secret budget after the elections. Despite the lighthearted nature of the conversation, Lira looked displeased, but understood the message," the report states.

Former President Lula (PT), who leads all opinion polls, is a staunch critic of the secret budget. According to a Supreme Court Justice, overturning the mechanism in the Court could benefit him, since, if elected, the PT member "would begin his term with a transparent rule for preparing the first budget of his administration," reports Brígido.
