Brasilia247 - One of Brasília's main leisure centers and one of the largest urban parks in the world, with 420 hectares, the Dona Sarah Kubitschek City Park is not in the ideal conditions that its thousands of daily visitors expect. The most serious situation is in the park's lake, which once hosted paddle boats and today is home to fish, ducks, mallards, and other birds, and is suffering from a leak that has already dried up a large part of its area.

According to the manager of the City Park, Deputy Secretary Alexandro Ribeiro, the problem was caused by erosion that opened a hole through which the lake's water is draining. He stated that the government cannot yet give a timeframe for resolving the problem, which depends on an assessment by Novacap, but the situation is considered a "state of emergency."

“The solution to the problem will begin next week by containing the area. The hole will be covered and a blanket will be placed to prevent further infiltration. After this process, the lake will be refilled,” said Ribeiro after the inauguration, this morning (21), of a new entrance to the City Park, located between Blocks 912 and 913 South.

The undersecretary explained that, during the work, the affected area, which will require concreting, will have to be isolated. After the hole problem is resolved, the area will also be revitalized.

"The lake will be a little empty; we'll manage it so as not to kill the fish or disrupt the ducks' lives. Afterwards, we'll do the cleaning work to deliver it as quickly as possible," he said.

The inauguration of the new entrance to the park was attended by the governor of the Federal District, Rodrigo Rollemberg. He said that the new access aims to reduce traffic in the region, which has a high concentration of schools and colleges, and is the access route for more than 10 cars per day.

At the event, Rollemberg signed two service orders for the construction of pedestrian walkways at the new entrance and lighting for the new walking track in the City Park. According to the governor, the lighting will be financed by the public lighting tax and should cost 780 reais. "This is the beginning of a process to strengthen the parks in the Federal District," he stated.

The governor highlighted the reduction in freely appointed commissioned positions in the Federal District government. According to him, the government has already managed to reduce them by 48,93%. The commitment is to reach 60%. "We will continue cutting so that we have more resources to guarantee the financial balance of the Federal District and more resources for investment for the population," he assured.
