Leandro Cipriano, Brasília Agency - More than R$ 213 million will be returned to consumers in 2014, through "Nota Legal", according to the announcement made this Thursday (9) by the Finance Department. The credits can be used to reduce IPTU and IPVA from this Friday (10).

"This year we have almost 800 registered participants in the Nota Legal program, allowing them to reduce their taxes. Participation has grown, which means the population has understood the program's intention," stated the Secretary of Finance, Adonias Santiago, during the press conference.

Of the R$213 million made available, R$135,4 million will go to the 792.788 people registered in the program, and the remaining R$77,6 million will go to the more than 2,8 million people who have not yet registered but have up to two years to join the program.

"The validity period is two years, but it will expire for those who do not use their credits during that period. By participating in the program, the taxpayer is also exempt from being listed in the Tax Debt Registry," Santiago emphasized.

Since its creation in 2008, the "Nota Legal" program has distributed over R$ 500 million, benefiting approximately 3,5 million people.

ANTICIPATION – This year, the period for indicating tax credits has been brought forward to January 10th and runs until February 10th. Taxpayers can choose whether the discount will be applied to property tax (IPTU), vehicle tax (IPVA), or both, but to qualify, they cannot have any outstanding debts with the Treasury Department.

Starting in June, those who do not own property or a vehicle linked to their CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID) in the Federal District will be able to choose to receive the credits in cash (savings or checking account). The measure follows the provisions of Law No. 4.886/2012.

If preferred, the taxpayer can transfer the credits to third parties. In this case, the registration data must be validated before carrying out the operation. The objective is to reinforce user security and prevent fraud attempts.

To indicate available credits, you need to access the "Nota Legal" website: www.notalegal.df.gov.br. Those interested should enter the restricted area and choose the tax for deduction by clicking on the "Use" icon.

ACCESSION – According to the overall figures, more and more people are using the benefits of the program. Proof of this is that in the first eight days of 2014, almost 6 people had already registered for "Nota Legal".

Considering the number of consumers who are beneficiaries of credits but not registered on the site, there is a possibility of exceeding 100 new registrations. Furthermore, more than 79 companies participate in the program that includes CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID) numbers on invoices.

In 2013 alone, an average of 1 million consumers had their tax documents correctly declared by companies each month, representing a 16,91% increase in the number of people including their CPF/CNPJ (Brazilian tax identification number) on receipts.
