247 - A 34-year-old woman spent five days hospitalized after being brutally assaulted by her partner, businessman Cléber Lúcio Borges, 55, in the elevator of the condominium where they live in the Federal District, according to reports. g1.

The victim was admitted to a hospital on Saturday (2) with fractures in the face and several edemas throughout the body, caused by the sequence of punches and elbow strikes he suffered in the early hours of the previous day, according to relatives. He was only discharged from the hospital on Wednesday (6). According to the Civil Police, it was the victim's mother who contacted the authorities, after being alerted by doctors about signs of violence in the injuries.

Images show sequence of attacks - The footage from the building's security cameras shows the moment Cléber attacks his partner as they enter the elevator. The woman, who had called the elevator, is surprised by the businessman with a punch as soon as the doors open. Inside the elevator, the assault continues for almost four minutes: she is knocked to the ground, tries to fight back with slaps, but continues to be hit with blows to the face and body.

Even wounded, the victim tries to exit the elevator when the doors open again, pressing buttons to go to another floor. Cléber, in turn, leaves the scene.

The victim had been assaulted before. According to investigations, the woman had already been the target of other assaults perpetrated by Cléber, but had never filed a police report or requested a protective order. However, according to the understanding of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) since 2012, the investigation of crimes covered by the Maria da Penha Law can proceed regardless of the victim's wishes.

During an informal statement given at the hospital, the woman reported that the argument began after a wedding, due to a disagreement about who should drive home. "They went to a wedding party and, on the way out, they disagreed about who was going to drive the car. And they ended up having this argument over a small matter," reported Detective Marcos Loures, based on the victim's statement.

Prison and illegal weapons - Cléber Lúcio Borges was arrested in flagrante on Thursday morning (6), at his residence. At the site, the Civil Police found two firearms and a large quantity of ammunition, all without registration or legal carrying permit.

Even after paying bail of R$ 25,9 related to the illegal possession of weapons, Cléber remained in pretrial detention by court order due to the crime of domestic violence, which does not allow release upon payment of bail.

What the defense says - In a statement, lawyer Thyago Batista Ribeiro, representing Cléber Lúcio Borges, declared: "The defense team for the investigated party informs that the necessary statements will be made within the court proceedings. The case is under investigation, and the conduct mentioned in the report has not yet been formally charged. All appropriate defense measures are being taken. The investigated party has a vested interest in the clarification of the facts and reiterates his integrity."

The businessman operates in the furniture industry and maintains businesses in both the Federal District and the state of Goiás.
