Citizens are registered in the National Civil Identity database and on the "gov.br" platform.
247 The Brazilian Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) is investigating possible irregularities in two cooperation agreements between the Ministry of Economy, the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), and the Brazilian Association of Banks (ABBC). The three institutions agreed that banks can access biographical and biometric information of citizens registered in the National Civil Identity database and on the "gov.br" platform. The biographical and biometric data includes date of birth, mother's name, facial photo, fingerprint, among others.
"Currently, the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office is awaiting a response to an official letter sent to the Special Secretariat for Debureaucratization, Management and Digital Government of the Ministry of Economy, requesting clarification on whether cooperation agreements 16 and 27/2021 have been terminated and, if so, what the reasons would be," the statement said.
According to information published this Tuesday (6) by G1 portalThe documents provide for "biometric and biographical validation of the citizen in the national civil identification database, in accordance with Law No. 13.444, of March 11, 2017, as well as the connection of the gov.br authentication platform and the banks, thus allowing the authentication of citizens registered with the banks, for the purposes specified."
The Ministry of Economy reported that the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) and the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) "reviewed the aforementioned actions and, within their respective jurisdictions, declared their legality and recommended the archiving of the proceedings." The ANPD is part of the Presidency of the Republic.
