Brasilia 247 - Companies that provide school transport services to students in the public school system of the Federal District have once again paralyzed activities as of this Thursday (1st), for an indefinite period. The category demands the payment of overdue transfers totaling R$ 40 million. It is estimated that up to 60 children and teenagers will be affected by the strike.

Currently, 11 companies carry out the activities and employ 1,6 people, with a fleet of 700 buses, transporting students to more than 600 educational institutions in urban and rural areas. "The financial costs for maintaining the operation are extremely high and daily, making the service unfeasible, given the administration's negligence in fulfilling payments for services already rendered," said the Association of School Transportation Companies of Brasília, according to a report by G1.

Drivers had already staged a strike on October 31st for the same reason. According to the group, the debts date back to 2014: R$ 3,5 million for the first year; R$ 2,5 million for 2015; and R$ 33 million for 2016. At the time, the Education Secretariat stated that the total debt was R$ 19,5 million.
