Moraes bans visits by Valdemar, president of the PL, to Bolsonaro
Yesterday, the Supreme Court decided to reopen the investigation into the coup plot involving the party leader.
André Richter, reporter for Agência Brasil - Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), denied this Wednesday (22) the request of the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, to visit former president Jair Bolsonaro, who is under house arrest.
In his decision, Moraes vetoed the visit, understanding that the leader of Bolsonaro's party was prohibited from visiting him after the decision in which the First Panel of the Court decided to reopen the investigation into the coup plot against the politician.
“In a decision dated August 4, 2025, I maintained, among the precautionary measures regarding Jair Messias Bolsonaro, the prohibition on maintaining contact with Ambassadors or any foreign authorities, as well as with the other defendants and those under investigation in Criminal Actions 2.668/DF, AP 2.693/DF, AP 2.694/DF, AP 2.695/DF, Inquiry 4.995/DF and Petition 12.100/DF, including through third parties,” said Moraes.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court decided to reopen the investigation into the coup plot involving the president of the Liberal Party.
By a vote of 4 to 1, the panel accepted the proposal made by Moraes, who is the rapporteur for the case, during the trial that convicted the defendants of Nucleus 4 of the coup plot, a group accused of spreading disinformation against electronic voting machines.
One of those convicted is the former president of the Instituto Voto Legal (IVL), Carlos Cesar Moretzsohn Rocha.
Rocha was hired by the PL party to conduct studies to support the legal action in which the party challenged the results of the first round of the 2022 elections before the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The action used misinformation to suggest fraud in the electronic voting process.
With this decision, the investigation should be resumed to investigate the crimes of criminal organization and attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law.
Last year, Valdemar was indicted by the Federal Police (PF) in the investigation into the coup plot. However, the politician was not formally charged by the Attorney General's Office (PGR) in any of the four groups accused of trying to keep Jair Bolsonaro in power after the 2022 elections.
