247 - Hair braider Thais Medeiros de Oliveira, 25, suffered irreversible brain damage due to lack of oxygen to the nervous system organ. This information was released by Dr. Rubens Dias, from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Santa Casa de Anápolis, 55 kilometers from Goiânia, the capital of Goiás. Thais fell ill on February 17th after inhaling a jar of pickled peppers. She spent more than 20 days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to the healthcare professional, the injury was caused after Thais suffered cardiac arrest, which led to a lack of oxygen to the brain. He said that the young woman may improve, but there is a possibility that she may not be able to fully recover.

"What she experienced was a period when the brain didn't receive proper oxygenation because the heart wasn't pumping blood to the body. And this generates irreversible damage with a very high potential for severity," Rubens Dias stated. G1 portal

"Regarding her neurological prognosis, we expect a severe neurological injury. Our outlook is that a return to normal activities is unlikely. The brain may recover, but we believe that a return to usual activities is, unfortunately, not possible," he added.
