Brasilia Agency With the arrival of 50 professionals from the "Mais Médicos" program since September, the capacity of the health system has been expanded. These professionals can serve an estimated population of 150 inhabitants, as each team is responsible for covering up to three thousand people.
"The professionals attend to hypertensive patients, those with chronic conditions, and the elderly, and provide prenatal care, which promotes more balanced health and, consequently, relieves pressure on hospital emergency rooms," stated the Undersecretary of Primary Health Care, Rosalina Sudo.
In the first two phases, 16 Brazilian professionals were sent to the Federal District. The third phase began on November 11th, when the Federal District received 33 Cuban doctors, who are already working in health units.
The specialists are currently working in Ceilândia, Recanto das Emas, Gama, Brazlândia, Samambaia, Santa Maria, Riacho Fundo, São Sebastião, Planaltina, Sobradinho, Taguatinga, and Estrutural.
With the addition of these professionals, Samambaia now has 46 Family Health Strategy teams, which corresponds to almost 70% coverage of the local population, estimated at over 200 inhabitants.
Ceilândia, in turn, almost doubled its basic healthcare coverage, jumping to 26 teams. In Santa Maria, specialists reach 25% of the population, estimated at 124 inhabitants.
